Peter Som Spring 2013 Runway Show at New York
NEW YORK – Peter Som is typically a ladylike designer known for his elegance in the casual. That’s why it was ironic and a little off putting to see him try to hone in on a cooler attitude with his Spring/Summer 2013 collection at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Did you like the results? It’s certain that Som knows how to design clothing, but did this newer, cooler attitude work for him? It’s up to the viewers to decide. What worked: the floral prints, the lace, the watercolor patterns, the graphics, and the snakeskin. But aren’t these generally going back to that ladylike vibe? According to Som, no, as long as you add that little bit of punch, which it seems like he did. Right down to the colored extensions in the hair. The end result? A bit of downtown chic meets resortwear cool.
