Matthew Williamson Fall 2012 at London Fashion Week

LONDON – Matthew Williamson, like many of the designers who showcase at London Fashion Week, is all about loud colors and overembellishment. So when the first model, Maryna Linchuk, on the runway came out in an oversize pastel colored fox fur coat, many of us gasped in awe the same way we did at New York Fashion Week with the kaleidoscope fur at Peter Som and the oversize mink hats designed by Stephan Jones at Marc Jacobs. Worn with bronzed skinny pants and a dark purple top, it spoke volumes for the rest of the collection we were about to see. Sequins abounded and cocktail dresses lifted us out of dark Fall melancholy. Dresses and tunic were boxy, with a space age vibe brought forth with played up metallics and other motifs–something other designers decided to overlook this season.
