Marchesa Fall Winter 2012

NEW YORK – Marchesa has a valuable reputation when it comes to making romantic, gorgeous, and jaw-dropping gowns for glamorous red carpet events, but did you know this was only design duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s second time showcasing their designs on a runway? While the gowns were full and plentiful, the lacy short dresses also made an impact, at least where moving models are concerned. The duo was inspired by French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s painting A Soul Brought To Heaven about two angels carrying a woman through clouds. They brought this to the forefront in the girlyness of the dresses, the lavish embroidery, and the feathers. The models themselves, of course, looked like angels in white and grey. But there was also some toughness (perhaps the other side of Heaven?) Bodysuits were embroidered with skeletons and leather was abundant. But of course, the red carpet worthy gowns were what got the crowd going.
