Designer Highlights @ Jakarta Fashion & Food Festival 2011

“Inculturation” is a round of fashion promoting Indonesian designers to a global market at the Fashion & Food Festival 2011. Designer Adrian Gan showcases a statement gown that looks like its made out of hair. The model walks on high Lady Gaga-like platforms and wears an extravagant head piece. Another model wears a gown with an Indonesian motif and an asymmetrically circular tiered bottom. Barli Asmara’s looks are decidedly more fun and playful matching prints with feather bottomed dresses in bold colors and Thomas Sigar brings a retro feel to his collection. Ari Seputra brings the Indonesian print motif to his modern minidresses and Denny Wirawan uses black to make her dresses look chic with a rock & roll edge. Anne Avantie brings traditional Indonesian looks to the forefront with her intricate styling and design of the kebaya, the national costume of Indonesia. Hengki Kawilarang has a colorful array of print dresses and Era Soekamto keeps it bright in white. Fomalhaut Zamel keeps his tops beaded and his gowns detailed and Carmanita brings colorful elements to her designs. Defrico Audy uses lavish bold makeup on the eyes and gives her dresses a kick with color. Musa Widyatmodjo ties her dresses with big bow sashes and has other architectural and romantic elements. Sebastian Gunawan provides the audience with elegant gowns that seem red carpet worthy, Taruna K. Kasmayadi marks her print minidresses with snow hats, and Lenny Augustin has all-over color (including cool tights). Dina Midiani, Stephanus Hamy, and Didi Budiardjo have their own unique take on prints. Handy Hartono has one-shouldered dresses and embroidered gowns.
